Zohar Schondorf, Horn

bio_zoharUpon finishing his BM degree from the Juilliard school in 1995, Mr. Schondorf returned to his homeland of Israel for a total of six years to assume two positions in professional orchestras. One was as Associate Principal Horn with the Haifa Symphony Orchestra and the other as Principal Horn with the Israel Symphony/Opera Orchestra, a position he held from 1997 to 2001.

Invigorated by an extensive orchestral, opera, chamber and solo experience with numerous professional orchestras, Israel Philharmonic under Zubin Mehta among others, and ensembles in Israel, Mr. Schondorf relocated back to New York City and assumed the position of Associate Principal Horn in the American Symphony Orchestra under Leon Botstein. Mr. Schondorf is now Principal horn of ASO, Principal Horn of NKO in Israel and 3rd horn in Stamford Symphony Orchestra.

Mr. Schondorf enjoys a prosperous freelance career in NYC, performing regularly with numerous regional and local freelance orchestras and is featured as a regular member and in cast recordings of some high profiled Broadway shows, like “Spamalot”, Disney’s “The Little Mermaid”, “The Addams Family” and “Fiddler on the Roof”. Mr. Schondorf joined Zéphyros Winds in 2008.

Mr. Schondorf wishes to thank former mentors, Mr. Jeff Lang (Associate Principal Horn of Philadelphia Orchestra, former Principal Horn of ASO and former Principal Horn of Israel Philharmonic Orchestra) and the late Renier DeIntinis (former Third Horn of the New York Philharmonic) for influencing, inspiring and shaping his professional career
